PLATFORM

I have a background in Education and was a teacher before I had children of my own. I am passionate about seeing children reach their full potential and I truly believe that every child is worth the investment of time and resources.

Priorities

I truly believe that parents voices matter. As a parent of 4 children myself, I know that parents know what is best for their children. Parents should be actively involved in their child’s education and I believe that their values need to be respected. As a school board trustee, it would be my job to represent parent voices and that is exactly what I intend to do.

Parent Voices Matter
Choice in Education

All families and children are diverse in their needs and as such, I believe that choice in education is important. There is not a one size fits all for education and therefore, choice is crucial for the success of individual students. I will be advocating for continued choice in education and advancing access for special needs students.

Education Purpose

I believe that education should be about education. The focus of education should be to build early literacy and numeracy skills which build the foundation for all future learning. As a former educator, I believe in lifelong learning and this happens when children develop skills early on that give them the ability to be successful in their education journey. I will advocate for increased early intervention, but also later intervention for those children who may not have developed those essential skills yet.

Mental Health

In the last year and a half, mental health issues in children and adolescents have skyrocketed. This is a huge concern. Mental health issues impact learning in a big way and we need to find ways to support both families and teachers in this crisis.  I want to initiate collaboration between families, schools and community partners because I feel it is essential for dealing with this issue. I also believe that we need to help children and youth to have as normal a school year as possible.
